This film entails what Malia Manuel represents and her preparation for the 2012 US Open of Surfing. Malia was born on August 9th, 1993 in the small lush town of Wailua, Kauai. Influenced by her culture and parents, Malia began competing in surf competitions at the age of 8. She immediately fell in love with the surfing industry and reached the professional level by the age of 17, she goes on to say, “I never planned on being a professional surfer, it kind of chose me.” With inspiration and influences from many famous Kauai boys, Malia’s style is progressive and fluid yet graceful and poised. At 14, Malia became the youngest female or male to win the US Open of Surfing, amongst other accomplishments. Malia also enjoys to paint, her artistic ability allows her to paint her own surfboards with a Hawaiian / Polynesian theme and she often inscribes the word “KAUNU” into her paintings which means “passion” in Hawaiian. Malia has all the natural talent in the world and has the passion the size of the universe, which is forever expanding! Her abilities will bring her to the top of the surfing industry and she will be greatly renowned in the surfing world as she grows older. Enjoy!
