MUSIC Monday: Unlocking the Mysteries of The Doors

Breaking through to the otherside with The Doors.

This American rock band was formed in 1965 in the great state of California. Deep within the heart of Los Angeles, Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, John Densmore and Robby Krieger came together to form one of the most recognized bands of all time. Taking their name from Aldous Huxley’s book, The Doors of Perception, they were the most controversial rock acts in the 60′s. Morrison’s wild performances and poetic lyrics brought attention from all over the country to Los Angeles, to The Doors. There was no telling what Jim would do during a live performance, from being hammered drunk to dropping acid, Morrison crossed all boundaries to escape his normal senses in order to reach the unknown. Many people believe that Jim was The Doors and although that may be true, there was a lot more to it than just Jim. They were signed to Elektra Records in 1966 and one year later they released their first album, The Doors, a self titled album. This was followed by Strange Days (1967), Waiting for the Sun (1968), The Soft Parade (1969), Morrison Hotel (1970), Absolutely Live (1970) and L.A. Women (1971). They received 19 Gold, 14 Platinum and 5 Multi-Platinum album awards in the United States alone, this is an amazing accomplishment! Morrison quickly became recognized as a man with surprises, he became the first rock artist ever to be arrested onstage during a concert performance! Here’s a great example of a Doors live performance, it is a compilation from a bunch of different shows but the track is from a live performance at Isle of Wight Festival in 1970, this shows a bunch of crazy different Morrison on stage episodes…pretty epic..ENJOY!
