Hayden Shapes is an innovator in the world of custom surfboards. There’s so much that goes into a surfboard from the design to the method of shaping and the materials used. Today we’re doing a product review on the Hayden Shapes Psychedelic Germ Surfboard.

Buying a surfboard is a very personal thing that can take years of testing and tweaking to get a good fit. Then there’s the varying wave and bottom conditions that one can encounter from day to day. There’s a lot that can be done to mitigate the changing needs of a surfer. That’s where the Psychedelic Germ comes in. Starting with a displacement hull, moving to single concave, then to double concave, finishing with a slight double vee. This setup allows for a more forgiving takeoff, ride and landing (airs).

So that’s mostly about the shape, what about the materials? Well, you can get it with their awesome Futureflex technology built-in. Essentially an EPS foam blank with a carbon fiber frame resulting in a highly responsive board with an insane amount of drive. You can see from the video below that you’ll have no problem riding the line, getting barreled, busting airs or playing in the shorebreak.

Larry Edgar really has a good thing going. He’s been training at an MMA gym to get his endurance up and aid in pulling bigger airs. When this summer gets going, Larry is heading to Cedar Point in Ohio to perform in the stunt show there.
