History of the Alaia

The ancient Hawaiian surfboard came in four types, the alaia was the board most suited for riding "curling" waves. Originally sized at over 9ft, the alaia was trimmed down over time to allow for more maneuverability and to accommodate different wave types. This was the most common board used by the ancient Hawaiians.
